The Fourteenth Summary

On her first morning home from SPECIAL, Jessica's mom tells her that her grandmother, Gladdie, fell down the steps from a stroke. She also says they put her in an assisted living facility because she can't take care of herself anymore. Jessica thinks about how the Darlings avoid talking about bad things and that's how they deal with them. Jessica mentions that her older brother died of crib death when he was a baby. His birthday is in two days. Her mom deals with it every year by popping Valium and her dad deals with it by riding his bike from here to the moon.

Jessica goes to visit Gladdie because her mother insists it. She finds her grandmother, mid story, surrounded by a group of other senior citizens. Her grandmother remembers who she is, which is a good sign. Jessica...
