Maryse Boudreaux

Maryse is the protagonist of the novel. The novel is written in the first person from Maryse’s point of view. She is a twenty-five year old Black woman who has the sight. This means that she is able to see the demons that have taken over the bodies of some Ku Klux Klan members. She experienced the loss of her family when she was younger, and now she must reckon with the anger, hatred, and feelings of revenge that this has awakened inside of her.

From the outside, the battle Maryse faces is between the Ku Kluxes and her people.
