Summary

Chapter two begins with Maryse, Sadie, and Chef leaving Macomb in a truck. The three argue about who should sit where in the truck. They notice a billboard advertising the rerelease of the film, The Birth of a Nation.

The narrator, Maryse, explains that the second Klan began when William Joseph Simmons, who she claims was a witch, met with fifteen other people on Stone Mountain. It was these people, she claims, who conjured up the Ku Kluxes.

Thomas Dixon, Maryse explains, wrote the two books that The Birth of a Nation was based on. He, Maryse explains, was a conjuror. This movie reached many more people than the book could, and people worked themselves into a frenzy.

After explaining the history of the Klan, the narration goes back to the present day. The women are on the way to Nana Jean’s farm...
