Summary

Maryse sets out in search of the Night Doctors. She has been told to find an Angel Oak tree, but much of Macomb’s forests have been torn down to make room for cotton. Suddenly she is in a thick wood, and the trees have branches that grow blue bottles with haints trapped inside like fireflies.

Auntie Ondine wrote in her book that she will only find the tree if she wants it badly enough. She thinks about all the reasons she is hunting it, and when she thinks of Sadie, she sees it.
