Summary

Tyler’s mother convinces him to introduce himself to the family living in the trailer. He meets the men when they are milking the cows. Tyler’s mom explains to him that all the local people are hiring Mexican workers. The girls will be going to school with Tyler. Tyler is a bit apprehensive about people from other countries because of what happened on September 11th. When he goes to visit the girls, the Cruzes seem scared of him. They introduce themselves, and all of them share the first name María but are called by different names. Tyler explains that they name all of their cows after states. He asks them what Mexico is like, but the younger two have never been there. Tyler’s farm does not have a name. Ofie starts to explain that Mari was not born...
