Summary

As the novel opens, Tyler Paquette sees some new people coming out from the workers’ trailer on his family’s farm. He thinks they look like Indigenous people. He runs and tells his family “There’s some Indians trespassing! They just came out of the trailer,” but he is informed that they are not trespassing (3). Tyler, whose Gramps recently died of a heart attack and whose father is recovering from a farming accident, has just come back from a forced visit to his Aunt Roxie and Uncle Tony in Boston. He had been having nightmares since his father’s accident. He was the one who saw the accident. His family had to consider selling the farm.
