Summary

In Part Two, Scene Eleven, the story jumps back in time to the medical examination the morning after the assault. Tessa receives a text from Julian asking her where she is and if she’s gone to work. Tessa feels disgusted by the message and deletes it, immediately regretting doing so because she realizes to late that it was evidence. Julian sends another message and this time Tessa takes a screenshot of it. Tessa wonders if she is overreacting to the assault. The police officer informs her that it will be up to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether the evidence is strong enough to go to court. Tessa knows all of this but it still feels “like a slap” (72) to be told that the decision is out of her hands. Tessa thinks it might be easier to give up. But she worries...
