Summary
The play is a one woman show, with one actress performing all of the characters. The protagonist is Tessa Ensler (30s) a criminal barrister living in London. In Part One, Scene One, Tessa describes the thrill of a court case from the perspective of the defence. She describes cross-examining a witness for the prosecution. She enjoys the feeling of being underestimated by the witness, lulling him into a false sense of security by pretending to seem confused, before entrapping him into making a statement that undermines the prosecution’s case. Tessa says that the process isn’t emotional for her and that she sees it as a game, one that she is very good at winning.
