Princess Amelia

Princess Amelia "Mia" Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, whose friends call her Mia, is the illegitimate daughter of the Prince of Genovia. When her mother refused to marry her father, she didn't tell him she was pregnant, so Mia finds out as a freshman in high school that she is really a princess and a member of the royal Genovian family.

Amelia is very tall and lanky. Her hair is curly and untamed. She feels very self-conscious. Throughout the novel, Mia's grandmother, Grandmere, is providing lessons to her on how to be a princess to prepare her. Mia is constantly writing in her journal. Mia is also dating, Michael, who is Lilly's brother. Since Michael is a freshmen in college, Mia is worrying that she isn't as cool as the girls Michael is interacting with in college.
