Summary

In Chapter 18, the Golden Beijing continues its first week of being open, with similarly disappointing results as the first day. Jimmy scrambles to figure out how to alter the restaurant to make it functional and accessible, in addition to being high-end. The service is somewhat disorganized, and even the experienced employees struggle with the new restaurant space. At one point, Pat accidentally drops hot soup onto Jack, burning Jack’s foot. As Nan brings Jack to the hospital, Jimmy leaves to go to his mother’s house. Jimmy and Feng Fei argue fiercely, each blaming the other for their interactions with Pang. After the argument, Feng Fei goes to another room to be alone. She thinks with sadness about the personal flaws exhibited by her sons. She then thinks about Pang. Although she recognizes his sometimes immoral and unpredictable nature, she ultimately feels grateful...
