Summary

In Chapter 6, Jack returns home and finds that his wife, Michelle, is not there. Jack and Michelle do not have a very close relationship, but he is still baffled and worried by the fact of her absence. She has been physically unwell lately, but he and Jack rarely discuss this fact. In Chapter 7, Nan returns home and finds that Pat has already returned home on his own. Following their earlier argument, Nan and Pat now act fairly kind and apologetic to each other. Jack arrives, explaining that Michelle has gone somewhere without telling him. Nan agrees to let Jack sleep on Nan’s couch that night. Later, when Nan goes to Pat’s bedroom, it appears that Pat has snuck out of the house via the window of his room.
