Summary

As Chapter Sixteen begins, Young announces that she joined the school band, and that the band will be playing at every football game. This leads Chan to consider, in his narration, how much Abogee had supported Young’s music, and how O-Ma had told him that when they were young, Abogee loved spending time with both twins. Later, during football practice, Chan realizes his efforts at performing well are being sabotaged by Rom and Jimmi, and becomes determined to do better. After practice, as Chan and Mikko are heading back to the school, they are joined by some girls from the tennis team, including Rainey. Chan has a chance to speak with her, but finds himself tongue-tied and awkward.
