Summary

As Chapter Twelve begins, Chan references how tired and sore he is, and how good he feels, the same way he feels after a good Tae kwon do or soccer workout. He tells O-Ma that he is going to be staying after school again, and she says it is fine. Meanwhile, he is surprised to learn that Young is spending time with a white friend from the band named Donna. That lunch hour, Chan is invited to eat with the other guys on the football team, although Monster and his friend – the Mexican-looking guy – do not seem happy. That afternoon at practice, Chan’s first efforts at kicking the football (coached by Jimmi Beargrease, the Mexican-looking guy who turns out to be American Indian) get better, and he also successfully navigates a couple of other plays.
