Summary

Chapter 35 is dated April 15, 1912. The scene is chaotic as people rush about. Valora tells Bo about Drummer. Bo says Jamie and Tao are gathering the rest of their group. Valora wants Bo to reassure her that there are safeguards in place for emergencies such as this, including being able to seal off the damaged area. Bo does not reassure her, but says they are going to stay together, find Wink and Olly, and then find a lifeboat that will take the Chinese group. When they reach an upper deck, Valora sees “a pale, jagged wall of ice” (297), the iceberg that damaged the ship. She takes time to pledge to her parents that she and Jamie will survive the night. She asks Bo if the ship is going to sink. He says “Maybe,” but adds that they have things to do and can worry...
