Summary

In Chapter 12, Olly explains the superstition involving the feather. Valora predicts it means she is going to win the bet. Valora has four of the bread heels from the dining room. The boys begin to guess how she plans to use it. Valora teaches them the basics of juggling. She uses a knife to make her hair shorter so she can continue to wear Jamie's hat while she does the routine she has planned. Her hair is very short afterward. Valora coaxes the boys to tell her some about their pasts, and they talk about Bo and Jamie. Valora chooses her place and begins to entertain the passengers by juggling, making jokes during the performance. She recognizes Charlotte Fine among the crowd that gathers. Olly and Wink collect tips in their hats.
