Summary

In Chapter 16, Bo is in the lifeboat. Valora questions him about Jamie's whereabouts. They are at odds, as has been their habit since they met. Valora laughs when she and Bo have a confusing conversation about “influences.” Bo believes Jamie may no longer want to let Valora lead their relationship. Valora says that she and Bo seem to have Jamie's best interests at heart, but she feels Jamie was more carefree in the past. Bo suggests that is “just life.” They are interrupted by the arrival of two crewmen who say Mr. Ismay has been pushing the captain to make the best time possible in the hope of getting the Royal Mail contract, which would be lucrative for the company.
