Summary

In Chapter 6, Davy describes the days following Chapter 5, during which Mother and Aunt Louise argue over what to do with the house. Davy and Fred go to the cemetery where Grandmother is buried. The flowers on her grave have begun to decay, but Fred enjoys rolling in them. Davy tells Grandmother that Mother wants him to live in New York with her. He says that his mother seems to want him, but that she does not want Fred. Back at the house, Mother, who appears to have been drinking with Uncle Jess, announces that Fred can come to New York. Davy is delighted and kisses her, which seems to embarrass her.
