I'll Get There. It Better Be Worth The Trip. Overview

An early example of young adult literature dealing with queer sexuality, John Donovan’s I’ll Get There. It Better Be Worth the Trip. is narrated in the voice of Davy Ross, a teenage boy grappling with a number of changes following the death of his grandmother, the adult responsible for most of his upbringing. Written in a casual, conversational style, the novel follows Davy as he moves to New York to live with his mother, taking along his beloved dog Fred, and develops romantic feelings for a boy at his school. Through these events, Donovan portrays the difficulties of adolescence and change in general, while exploring themes of respect, progress, prejudice, and loss.
