Helen
Helen is one of the two protagonists of the novel. While she shares this title of protagonist with Grant, her side of the story takes slightly more precedence than his does. As the novel starts, she is an insecure but highly successful writer of a young adult book series. She has chosen to write young adult novels so as not to make her parents read anything salacious that she might otherwise have to write. Her novel is being made into a television series, and she will be moving to California to temporarily work on the scripts. This triggers her imposter syndrome, something that has followed her around throughout her career. She never quite feels like she has earned her success.
Helen has a history of trauma due to her sister’s suicide while they were in high school. Because of Michelle’s death, Helen knows love can hurt...
