The Frindle

"Frindle" is the word Nick comes up with as an experiment to determine if he and his friends can change language, and is a symbol of Nick's ingenuity, intelligence, and determination. The word does wind up in the dictionary, and Mrs. Granger reveals that she had been rooting for Nick to succeed from the beginning.

The Scholarship

Nick sets up a scholarship with a million dollars of the money he earned from his share of the frindle franchise items, and this scholarship symbolizes the success of his effort to coin a new word and of his devotion to Mrs. Granger.

The Dictionary Report

Nick tries to distract Mrs. Granger and the dictionary report is a symbol of her experience as a teacher. Rather than becoming distracted by his question about the dictionary, she issues Nick an additional assignment – a report about the history of dictionaries...
