Summary

Chapter 7 is titled “Word Wars.” Nick wants to take the next step of his plan to school. In Mrs. Granger's class, he raises his hand and announces “I forgot my frindle” (39). John immediately offers to lend Nick a frindle and “made a big show of throwing it over to Nick, and Nick missed it on purpose. Then he made a big show of finding it” (39). Everyone understands the message. Mrs. Granger ignores the situation but asks to speak with Nick after class. She commends his “funny idea” but warns against future disruptions. Nick pretends he does not understand. Mrs. Granger shows him her pen, and he says he really did forget to bring a frindle. Mrs. Granger ends the conversation by dismissing Nick. Just as he reaches the door, he promises not to forget his frindle again.
