Summary

Chapter 4 is titled “Word Detective.” Nick can hear kids playing down the street, but he is required to do his homework as soon as he gets home from school. His older brother James, now away at college, said he was able to handle the college work because that rule had instilled his work ethic. That reinforced the rule known as “Homework First.” Nick has never really minded because he never had much homework. There is an image in this chapter that shows Nick seated at a desk, surrounded by papers and books. He begins working on the report about the dictionary.
