Chapter 3 Summary

Marv swims through the water and into a sewage pipe under the surface of the water. He thinks of the many cops gathering above the water, waiting for him to surface, while he escapes beneath the water. Marv comes up coughing in the sewer. He knows that he has to get to Lucille in order to get what he needs. He sneaks up through a manhole to the streets, where he hides in the shadows. A cop walks right by him, whistling.

Marv climbs up the side of a building, hanging on to the bricks and grunting as he lifts himself up. He climbs up on a ledge, and leans back against the bricks. Inside, a sleeping woman hears noises in the nighttime. She sits up in bed, wearing only panties, and asks the dark apartment if it's Claire. She gets no response...
