The rogarou is a creature in the Native culture that symbolizes punishment awaiting those who do wrong. This is also a symbol of the fear that comes from doing wrong.

The CD Player

Zeus carries a broken CD player given to him by Jimmy Fine who happened to arrive for a visit on Zeus's birthday. The fact that Jimmy gave him the broken player is a symbol that he was not aware this was Zeus's birthday, but he felt compelled to give him something. The author never examines why Zeus always carries it. It could be that it represents his desire for a connection to his father, but it could also simply be that Zeus loves music.
