Summary

The sixth chapter is titled “2016.” Five years have passed since the previous chapter. Jane's oldest daughter is named Glenn Freida. She and Duncan now have another daughter, Patrice Marigold, who is a toddler but is “nowhere near as sunny as her name” (219). Glenn loves dressy clothes and is a happy child. Patrice is demanding and prone to meltdowns. Jimmy quickly became comfortable with babies in the house and there is a close bond between him and the girls. Aggie interrupts breakfast one morning with news that a man she and Duncan knew when they were young has died. Duncan touches Aggie's arm when it seems she might cry. Jane notices because they are often with Aggie but she has never seen him touch her before. Duncan agrees to go to the funeral with Aggie. There is a flurry of texts leading up to the trip...
