Summary

In Chapter 11, Miss Barks informed Demon he “would get supervised visits with Mom” (78). They would not discuss him “moving back home” until she was “on solid ground” (78). Demon and Stoner would “have to learn to get along” (78). Although he told Miss Barks about Crickson’s cruelty, she could not move Demon because Crickson had not abused him.

Life at Creaky was hard. The boys worked constantly and ate little. To feel better, Demon started drawing superheroes.

Demon disliked supervised visits. Mom made promises about how things would be different. She said Demon was her future (82). Demon hated that Mom put him in foster care when she “never had one good thing to say” about her experiences in the system (82).
