Summary

In Chapter 19, Jane spends the next week meditating on the show’s premise, but she keeps getting distracted imagining Hampton reading her manuscript. Meanwhile, she throws herself into “active mothering,” wondering what of her life is real (221). Finally, she texts Hampton to see if he has returned from his recent shoot in Canada and what he thought of her book. He does not respond.

One day, Brett returns to the house unexpectedly. He tells Jane that he and Piper are getting divorced. He has been trying to contact her because he needed a friend.
