Summary

Prologue, Fall Like Rain – It is December 2007 at the Los Angeles Institute. Emma Carstair’s parents are killed while investigating demonic activity at the beach caves of Leo Carrillo, unknown to Emma. Emma is best friends with Julian “Jules” Blackthorn, son of Andrew Blackthorn, head of the Institute. Emma’s weapon is named “Cortana” for “short sword”, a blade designed by the Wayland family and in Emma’s family for generations. Julian has other full and half-related siblings including Mark, Tiberius “Ty”, Octavian, Livia, Drusilla, and Helen. Helen is currently in Idris with her girlfriend, Aline. Emma has a crush on Julian. While Emma trains with Julian, Sebastian attacks the LA Institute. Julian and Emma try to round up the Blackthorn siblings.
