Summary

In Chapter 39, Joy tucks Davy and Douglas into bed while discussing the possible names Jack will chose for his book about Narnia. Joy then reads to them, noting that they always want “one more chapter.” Joy begins to wonder if Jack's relationship with Mrs. Janie Moore soured Jack on love. (Mrs. Moore and her daughter Maureen lived with Jack and Warnie for many years. Jack had been in the war with her son, had promised to care for her if her son died, and had kept that promise.) Jack says Warnie has ill feelings about that time. Joy says Jack keeps his feelings well hidden. Jack disagrees but brings the conversation to an end by returning to his book.
