Summary

Chapter 24 opens “a month later” (195), with Kyle and Marley walking downtown together. They are caught in a sudden rainstorm and Kyle realizes that exactly a year has passed since Kimberly died, and that he had driven down this street on the night of the accident. He sees a silver Toyota, exactly like his car, drive by in the rain. Kyle wants to go home and finds himself calmer as soon as their eyes meet and their hands touch. They arrive at Kyle's house and he makes a fire in the fireplace. He struggles with visions until Marley says she feels “we were never meant to be this happy” (197). Kyle and Marley had been skirting saying “I love you” by saying “I love it,” but Kyle now says the words aloud, pledging their love will endure anything. She professes her love as well. Kyle...
