Racy Negligee

The racy negligee represents diversion. Josie wears this negligee hoping that it will distract Stuart from violence and that he will decide instead to be romantic. Josie’s plan does not work. Stuart accuses Josie of cheating on him and having entertained a boyfriend before he came home.

Badge

Stuart’s badge is a symbol of power and credibility. Drew knows that because Stuart is a law enforcement officer that the police will not do anything when they come to the house in response to his phone call. For that reason, Drew decides that he needs to do something to protect his mother. Stuart’s badge also is a symbol of understood credibility. People assume that because he is a law enforcement officer that he is a law-abiding citizen.
