Summary

In Chapter 29, Max is reborn as a Beagle. Even though a young girl comes to adopt him, she cannot have him because a woman named Margaret has plans for him. His new name is Toby which was his very first name. Max, now Toby, wonders about the significance of this fact. In his early days, he realizes that it is as if he is the dog for everyone who is in the place he lives in. Margaret teaches him to be still.
