The narrator and his family are tired of being in close quarters at Gramma’s house. They have no privacy and have to be careful about their behavior, both when Gramma’s friends are over visiting and when Dad is in a work meeting.

2. Why is the family living in Gramma’s basement?

The family is living in Gramma’s basement, because a crane dropped a heavy load on the roof of their house. With money tight, they do not have enough to go on a nice vacation.

3. Why does the narrator sense that Gramma does not want them living with her?
