Greg Heffley

This young character, most likely about to enter sixth grade, is the main character and narrator of the novel. Although he has the perspective of an innocent child, he also has a keen eye for things out of sorts.

Mom/Mrs. Heffley

This character is focused on her family and wants everyone to have a good time, though her efforts toward that end are sometimes unrealistic.

Dad/Mr. Heffley

This character is working remotely at this point, which is why the family has the freedom to travel. He is apparently devoted to his family but often puts himself in a situation to be in trouble with his wife.
