Objective

The students will be able to demonstrate appropriate oral reading fluency skills.

Lesson

Possible Activities:

• Have the students pair and read aloud sections of the chapter. Have the students use a reading fluency rubric to critique each other.

• Call on the students to read a small 100 word portion of the chapter to the teacher orally. Critique them using an oral reading fluency rubric and share improvement strategies with the students.

• Have the students rewrite a section of the novel into a reader's theater script and allow them to work in a small group to do the reading for the class.

Homework

Have the students tape record themselves reading a part of the book orally and score themselves using a rubric which measures oral reading fluency.

Have the students research the skills needed to demonstrate appropriate oral reading fluency and present this information to the rest...
