Chapter 9

The stranger turns out to be Alice’s mother, Barb. Alice is shocked to see how fashionable her once shy mother has become. Barb surprises Alice even further by saying that she has married Nick’s father, Roger. Alice wasn’t a huge fan of Roger, and she remembered that Nick always used to mock him. Barb keeps asking Alice about things that she can’t remember, which upsets Alice. Alice declares that she’s going to fix her marriage and she won’t lose Nick.
