Chapter 76-79 Summary

Cross continues to work late with the FBI in New Orleans. When he tries to call home, he remembers it is his Aunt Tia's birthday and he forgot to get her a gift. He calls to wish her a happy birthday, then heads to the magician's house to look around. He continues to feel that he missed something.

In the house, he discovers small effigy dolls in the magician's bedroom that were not there during the first inspection. After noting the dolls, he hears the noise of intruders. He searches, alone, through the basement of the old house. In the dark, two assailants attack him. When one tries to bite him, he reacts furiously, pinning the attacker to the wall. When the lights come back on, he sees that his attackers are two dirty teenagers. He places them both under arrest.
