Part 7, Chapter 9 Summary

Marius searches Alexandria and one night answers a voice that beckons to him to come. He follows the voice into an underground temple and sees a blackened figure similar to the vampire who made him immortal in the grove. This blackened vampire asks how Marius came into being and he tells him about the grove. Marius follows him further into the temple and he is shown bodies of those vampires burned beyond saving. He encounters another ancient vampire burned by the disaster who tells him that their kind started by accident four thousand years ago. He goes on to explain that they were left in the sun, which is how all the others were burnt. Since they are all descended from the Mother and Father, what happens to them, happens to.....
