Marius' existence as a vampire begins when is forty years old. He encounters a Keltoi in a tavern whom he has a debate with over the ancient ways of the Egyptians. Marius is intrigued by stranger and expresses interest in learning these ancient ways that are otherwise lost on humanity. This druid then knocks Marius unconscious and kidnaps him. When he wakes up, he has no idea where he is. The only thing he knows for certain is that he is beyond receiving help from anyone or anything that he knows.
