Lestat goes to a ball packed with mortals and sees Armand there. Armand tricks him and drinks from him without his permission. Lestat lashes out and proceeds to beat the life out of Armand. As he is about to sever Armand's head, he stops himself. Lestat realizes that his anger is nothing compared to Armand's despair. They move off into the night and see that Gabrielle is waiting for them. They go back to the tower together.
