Lestat and Gabrielle meet privately with Armand and the old vampire queen as Armand admits defeat. He further explains to Lestat the way they lived with all of their rules. Lestat scoffs at their rules and it is this that they do not like. Lestat says to Armand that times change and that he and Gabrielle are modern vampires. They are not shackled by the rituals of the past that do not affect them. Lestat leaves Armand and the vampire queen behind as he carries Gabrielle and Nicholas with him.
