Lestat and Gabrielle now go as Armand's prisoners to his underground lair in the catacombs beneath les Innocents cemetery. When they reach their destination, Lestat and Gabrielle are surrounded by the fiends that have sought them out and they find they are being tried for blasphemy. The vampires argue with Lestat that they are not supposed to live amongst mortals and it is a sin that he and Gabrielle defy the old rules and do as they please. Lestat sees that Nicki is being held in a cage and frantically tries to figure out a way to break him free.
