Lestat takes his mother's advice and goes into the village to see Nicolas. They share a few bottles of wine together and get drunk as they relive their childhood memories. They go on to discuss philosophy and religion. Lestat's mother is correct that they have a lot in common. They talk about their loneliness and where their lives are headed. They both seem to be going nowhere. Lestat cannot go anywhere and Nicolas is giving up a sanctioned career by his father so that he can play the violin. Lestat makes him bring the violin to play it and when he does he becomes overcome.....
