Chapter 52, Catelyn and Chapter 53, Arya Summary

Catelyn Stark observes the happenings at the wedding feast. Many of the guests are very drunk. Grey Wind, Robb Stark's direwolf, is forced to stay outside by Lord Walder Frey. She watches Robb dance with several Frey women. When she learns some of the more trusted Freys are not at the wedding, she becomes a bit suspicious. Soon some of the men pound their cups on the table, and Lord Walder announces the bedding should begin. Edmure and Roslin, who is crying, are carried to the bedchamber. Catelyn and Robb stay behind. Roose excuses himself from the room.

The musicians begin to play, and suddenly Catelyn sees what is happening. She looks to Robb, who has been struck with several crossbow bolts. The musicians are actually assassins, and the wedding turns into a battle. Most...
