Summary

The next chapter is titled “Day Minus One Hundred and Five, 08:55.” It is now July. Todd has not yet met Clio or befriended Connor. Jen wonders if those were merely distractions from something more important. Jen is a little hurt that Todd and Kelly barely notice when she leaves the house that Saturday morning. She goes to HMP Altcourse – the prison where Joseph is being held. There are no restrictions on visits on weekends. Joseph knows she is “Jen, the love of Kelly's life” (207). He asks how she did not know that Kelly had done burglaries, assaults, and drugs. Jen begins to think about Kelly who has few friends, does not associate with other parents, never travels, “Always seems to have enough money” but does not have a regular job (210).
