Chapter 4, Summary

(Chapter 4, "Topeka") When Roland Deschain, Susannah and Eddie Dean, Jake Chambers and Oy get out of Blaine's carriage, They hear a sound like a saw wobbling. The sound makes Roland almost faint. Regaining his composure, he says he will tell his companions about it later. The gunslingers arrive in Topeka, Kansas but find it deserted. They see corpses and find a newspaper with a story about a superflu that has wiped out most of the population in the world a year before Eddie left it. (Chapter 5, "Turnpikin'") Everyone looks to Eddie, who says there was nothing like that when he was in New York City. They realize this world is similar but different from their own, especially since there are cars and sports teams that don't exist in their world. They find a wheelchair for Susannah, who lost her legs after being pushed...
