Summary

In Chapter 17, Ben and Lily called Jack. Lily had discovered the affair. On the phone, Adrienne could hear Ben making apologies. She was shocked he did not mention loving Malabar. Jack responded calmly. He said he understood, but Ben's behavior was unacceptable. Off the phone, Jack asked Adrienne why she had not told him. However, he blamed her for nothing, believing their parents had victimized her.

In Chapter 18, Adrienne and Jack went to Massachusetts to work on wedding plans. They visited Jack's parents first. Adrienne had written an apology letter to Lily, yet remained uncomfortable in her presence. The dinner was tense. Ben apologized to the family. Lily was quiet, but cracked and ate her lobster aggressively. Later, Lily asked questions about the wedding. She demanded Adrienne promise Malabar and Ben would have no contact during the affair.
