Chapter Five Summary

Eric picks Sarah up in his white BMW. Eric swerves the car when Sarah admits the family knows about the murder. Sarah confronts him but Eric claims it would not bother him to live in a house where a murder took place. When they arrive at the restaurant Sarah is immediately infatuated with Tony. As the three sit down to dinner, Eric recounts numerous practical jokes he has played on friends in the past. Sarah learns that Tony likes biographies and mysteries, like her. When she sees the birthmark on his wrist he seems embarrassed. Eric suddenly has to leave and Tony offers to take Sarah home. She tries to tell them that Mom expects Eric to take her home but she is stymied by her attraction to Tony. Tony's car is new. He takes Sarah on a drive around Houston...
