Chapter Five Summary

Mary and Heidi take the cable car up to Schloss Adler accompanied by Captain von Brauchitsch. Von Brauchitsch leads them to a large room and introduces Mary to Anne-Marie who is in charge of the castle's female staff and personal secretary to Colonel Kramer, head of the German Secret Service in the area. Anne-Marie takes Mary into a room, questions her and strip-searches her, and when they return it is obvious that Mary has been crying. Anne-Marie tells Heidi to take Mary to the room that she uses when she serves at the castle, and as they are leaving Colonel Kramer himself enters the room. Mary hears von Brauchitsch inform Kramer that three of the British spies will be brought to the castle for questioning shortly and that their leader was killed in a car wreck. In her room Mary is...
