Summary

In the beginning of Part Five, the Thunderhead explained that there were things that it was not willing to do, but it could not control when members of the scythedom chose to act unethically. In Chapter 30, Scythe Faraday and Munira researched the first scythes in the Great Library of Alexandria. Faraday asked Munira to be his assistant. Munira withdrew from her classes and accepted the position. Faraday revealed that he searched for the Land of Nod, which Munira found irrational. He had Munira attempt to decode the first scythes’ writing using the scythedom’s decryption software, but the results were mostly nonsense. Munira realized that there was one area in the Pacific over which planes did not fly. At the end of the chapter, the Thunderhead expressed its distaste at people searching through its backbrain.
